I purchased a brand new HP laptop (660d) from John Lewis in Bluewater because allegedly both HP & John Lewis have good reputation re reliability & customer service respectively. Not so; after only 3 months of purely average home use, the lettering on the keyboard is coming off. I don't touch type & a keyboard without letters is as much use to me as a chocolate teapot. Pleasantly & reasonably I returned it to the branch from which it was purchased only to be told it might not be repaired as they considered this to be normal wear & tear for 4 months and thus would not be covered by the warranty, nor would John Lewis repair or replace it (given my contract is with John Lewis) if HP themselves refused to do so. I have owned laptops for 20 years or so & have never had lettering coming off. I have not used chemical products to clean the keys, nor do I use hand cream. This little gem was explained by a young 'associate', rather abruptly, certainly not in the manner that I would consider to be expected of a company who pride themselves on having good customer service. The manager whom I requested to speak to also agreed that this was 'normal wear and tear' however he was certainly more professional & expressed it more politely. Are they being serious!!!?? Unbelievable! In fairness they are going to wait to see if HP are willing to repair it & they have lent me a Sony laptop meanwhile however this is not guaranteed. I am astonished and more than disa
Service and customer care was Poor, very poor. Only one item received - and that differed from website description - and was delivered late! The other item proved to be unavailable, but no communication from John Lewis saying this until non-delivery of item queried! Plus John Lewis even took three days to answer that query, and then only with a limp apology stating that the item was unavailable because it had been 'returned to supplier'? Items ordered as presents, so lateness of delivery and communication (after 10 days, and then only after query) from John Lewis stating order was unavailable left no time to arrange replacements from elsewhere. When queried, only a single line response with a stock apology and made up reason. Poor service and poor customer care, extected better from John Lewis, have a regular shopper at John Lewis for over thirty years, but will give web site store a wide berth from now on!
