Yesterday I picked up my last purchases EVER from Marks and Spencers. What idiot dreamed up their "order online pick up in store service?" Ordering was simple picking it up from their Swansea store a complete nightmare. I assumed I would hand over my credit card, pick up my prepacked order at a designated counter, bag it and carry it out of the store. Instead I was forced to join a threequarter hour long queue at the checkout, the staff were extremely unhelpful and surly, the "pick-up station" no more than a shelf with a limited range of unrefrigerated goods (including raw turkeys) that were heaped in front of me. From now on I will only shop at stores where the staff understand the concept of service, and are pleasant and helpful. After Marks and Spencers - Asda and Sainsbury's were a joy to enter. Marks - you have lost my custom permanently. It may take time but I will track down all the purchases I have previously made with your company and buy elsewhere.
And to think I was hoping for a relaxed Christmas!
I have been an M&S fan for a long time - I've shopped there regularly for food for several years. About six months ago, I noticed that they were frequently overcharging me at the till. Reasons were diverse - not giving me the sales price advertised in the store, not giving me credit for "buy 2 for £xx" promotions, items mis-marked, or items scanned through more than once. It was irritating, but since I like the food, I've continued to shop there. However, the mistakes have increased in frequency and twice in the past week (in two different stores) I've been overcharged by more than £7 (I have the receipts). The last time, I was charged twice for an item in the "Dine in for £10" promotion costing me an extra £4.19. I found the mistake when I checked the receipt before leaving the store. When I pointed it out to the cashier, she looked a bit guilty and didn't even apologize as she was refunding the money. I'm starting to think these are not random mistakes. If you shop at M&S food, carefully check your receipt before leaving the store - it will save you money
